🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Movement Mechanics Become Widely Accessible This Season Respawn Entertainment have a special treat prepared for the popular battle royale gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Enthusiasts of the battle royale's super-slick movement can rejoice to discover that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when the Amped season goes live on November 4th. Unveiling Mantle Boosting Dubbed "Mantle Boosting" by Respawn, this ability provides gamers a surge of forward momentum when climbing over obstacles. As explained key developer the design lead, Mantle Boosting has unofficially been a feature of the game for some time, usually referred to as "ledge boosting." But it's no easy feat for the average player, and typically employed by competitive players in competitive play or tournaments. In this update, the team simplifies the process for everyone to execute these advanced movement boosts. "Mantle Boosts existed in Apex for a while, but the movement isn't easy to perform and a player might not realize it's possible without external guides," the designer states. "We're adding a Mantle Boost indicator so users can clearly identify the timing to activate the fast-paced movement ability, making accessible the feature and adding new ways to compete for a much wider base." Why Make It Accessible Why make a previously obscure technique available to all players? Principal designer the development lead says the team wants gamers to experience empowerment — even those who are inexperienced. "Our community performs advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we looked around at our competition, observed what the community are doing, and we wondered, 'How can we provide some of this power to more players?'" Mohan clarifies. "Since currently, some of these advanced [movement] mechanics are kind of janky to access — it requires to remap your keybinds and hit precise timings. We proposed, 'How about we create a more official version?'" The Amped Update Movement Focus Movement is largely the name of the game in this season, with characters the gravity mage, the defensive specialist, and Valkyrie all getting buffs to help keep them mobile. The cooldown period on her tactical ability has been decreased, and this skill will boost users upward faster than before. Her defensive walls now include a roof and the ability to grant movement bonuses to those nearby. However the spotlight is on aerial this Legend receiving the most attention now, with various adjustments applied to make her stronger, faster, and deadlier. "I think there's quite a consensus that Valkyrie's time is here," states character developer the designer. "Certainly that she's been dominant previously, but with the introduction of other characters, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it seemed like she's not very relevant in current the game. It was a really great opportunity for the team to revisit a bunch of aspects in her abilities and essentially restore her to former prominence." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To restore Valkyrie's relevance in current strategies, Holstead says Respawn assessed each of her abilities and introduced significant changes. Her jetpack have been upgraded, increasing velocity during flight, and this equipment regenerates much quicker, allowing her to spend more time in the air. She can no longer be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which was enhanced to tag enemies who take damage from the missiles. Her squad redeploy skill — which lifts her entire squad into the air for redeployment or escape — requires reduced delay to activate. Additionally, she gains recently added perk choices that players can select to conserve resources, widen the area of her rockets, or further speed up her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," Holstead comments. Map Changes Additionally, the only floating arena, Olympus, is getting a movement-friendly facelift, with an extensive redesign that expands choke points and makes securing elevated positions more manageable. The developers says Apex Legends Season 27 focuses on giving players the tools they need to compete in the competition. "Essentially, we examined the game's core identity as a movement shooter," explains principal designer Josh Mohan. Apex Legends Season 27: Amped releases November 4th at the specified times.
